Considering the growing eye care needs of Udumalpet community which was met only through screening camps, Aravind opened its centre in Udumalpet in June 2012. The centre offers services in the treatment of cataract, refractive errors and a few speciality conditions. Services will be expanded further to include a wide array of speciality eye diseases.
In the year ending March 2021, Aravind – Udumalpet handled around 64,657 outpatient visits and performed 7,839 surgeries.

Vision centres are small, permanent facilities that provide eye care services to remote and rural communities. Manned by ophthalmic technicians, these telemedicine-assisted centres allow patients in rural areas to consult ophthalmologists at the base hospital, thus eliminating the need for patients to travel to hospital (unless more advanced treatment is needed).
