Felicitating Manohar Devadoss

Aravind Eye Care System and Madurai Readers’ Club jointly organised a function to felicitate Manohar Devadoss, on him being chosen for the Padma Shri Award, the fourth highest civilian honour by the government of India. Dr.P.Namperumalsamy, Director Emeritus, Aravind Eye Care System; Mr.P.Suryanarayanan, Convenor, Madurai Readers’ Club (MRC); Dr.G.Natchiar, Director Emeritus, AECS;  Dr.Premila Paul, SCILET, The American College; Prof.Dr.Geeta Ravi, Rtd. Head of the Dept. of English, Fatima College, Madurai; Prof.Dr.Prabahar Vedamanickam, The American College, Madurai and Mr.Thulasiraj Ravilla, Director-Operations, AECS offered felicitations. In the acceptance speech, Manohar Devadoss expressed his gratitude for having been selected for the award and thanked Aravind and MRC for their support. Staff of Aravind, Members of MRC, friends and well wishers of Manohar Devadoss attended the function.

Hospital Day Celebrations

Aravind-Coimbatore, February 01

Aravind Eye Hospital – Coimbatore successfully completed twenty three years in restoring sight. The celebration began with a prayer song by Dr.Murali Krishnan, Medical Consultant, General Ophthalmology . Dr.Ganesh V Raman, Chief, Glaucoma Services welcomed the gathering. Dr.Rodney Morris, Senior Medical Consultant – Retina Services presented a report on the activities of the last year. Chief Guest, Mrs.Prema Rangachary, Director and Principal Advisor to Vidya Vanam, Anaikatti, gave an inspirational speech. Awards were given to  employees who completed 5,10, 15 , 20 and 25 years of service. Dr.Kavitha Yuvarajan, Senior Medical Consultant, Department of Orbit gave the vote of thanks. Cultural programmes by the staff from all cadres were also staged.

Aravind-Tirunelveli celebrated the completion of thirty two years of service in restoring vision.   Apart from the staff of Aravind, doctors from various specialities in and around Tirunelveli, Rotary and Lions Club members and well wishers of Aravind attended the event.

Dr.R. Meenakshi, Chief Medical Officer welcomed the gathering.  Dr. Neelam Pawar,  Senior Medical Officer presented a report on the activities of the past year. Dr.R.Ramakrishnan, Advisor gave an inspiring speech. Dr.K.Pitchumani, Vice Chancellor, Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, the chief guest gave an enlightening talk and congratulated the staff for their selfless service. Service awards and certificates were distributed to staff members which was followed by cultural programmes. Dr. Maneksha, Chief , Orbit Clinic offered the vote of thanks.

Aravind-Pondicherry, February 22

Aravind Eye Hospital, Pondicherry completed 17  years of its service.  Mr.Arunachalam Muruganandham, the  “Padman of India” was invited as the chief guest. Chief Medical Officer, Dr.R.Venkatesh welcomed the gathering and presented a report on the achievements of the hospital in the last year. Service awards were distributed to the staff by Dr.G.Natchiar, Director Emeritus and Dr.R.D.Ravindran, Chairman – Aravind Eye Care System. Dr.P.Namperumalsamy, Chairman Emeritus, distributed awards in the field of research. The hospital introduced a new set of awards to promote a culture of innovation, the first of its kind initiative at Aravind. Titled “Inspiring Innovation”, these awards were presented by Mr. Muruganandham.

New Vision Centre at Pallapatti

Pallapatti, February 12

Aravind’s 79th Vision Centre was inaugurated at Pallapatti by Dr.S.R.Krishnadas, Director, Human Resources, Aravind Eye Care System. The team examined 82 patients on the inaugural day.

Low Vision Awareness Exhibition

Aravind-Salem organised a month long awareness exhibition on low vision. Posters with awareness messages were displayed.  Around 1,450 patients visited the stalls and participated in the awareness oriented games.

Continuing Professional Education (CPE) Programme for Accounts Team

Aravind-Madurai, February 15-16, 2020

The programme was conducted for the staff f Accounts Department across all Aravind centres. About 55 staff attended. The CPE discussed ways to standardize the accounting process, ensure error free, accurate and timely reports and to strengthen financial controls across the system.

Eye Donation Awareness Programme

Madurai, February 16

Mr. Saravanan, Manager, Rotary Aravind International Eye Bank, Aravind Eye Hospital, Madurai handled an awareness session for the NSS students of Subbu Lakshmi  Lakshmipathy  College of Science. He mentioned the importance of  eye donation and students’ role in eradicating corneal blindness. About 50 students participated.

Empanelled for Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme

Aravind-Salem has been empaneled for Chief Minister’s health insurance scheme in December 2019 and cleared all the proceedings. The hospital has started to treat patients under this scheme from February 2020.

Special Care for Diabetes Patients

Aravind-Salem has started providing special food for diabetic patients brought from camps. This has resulted in zero not-operated cases due to high sugar, in the month of February.

Monthly Newsletter

Aravind-Salem has started bringing out monthly newsletters to increase the referrals/ sensitize the doctors about the latest trends in ophthalmology. Each month’s issue will focus on a particular disease/ treatment modality/ latest technology in Ophthalmology/ case series, etc. Dr.Deepthi prepared the February  newsletter on the topic, Photic Retinopathy. Around, 1000 copies were sent out to the referral doctors, IMA members and nearby hospitals.
