As the New Year dawned, Covid-19 situation in India became a cause of concern with single day cases increasing at alarming proportions. The grave situation has triggered alarm across the country with many reinstating strict restrictions in order to break the chain of transmission and contain the virus spread. Considering the gravity of the situation, Aravind, too has become extra cautious in following Covid appropriate behaviour and protocols. The organisation was about to start its training programmes, but had to call off these for a larger good. For the first time ever, Aravind conducted a garden fest and competition for staff across the centres. The programme received overwhelming response and it was truly a treat for the eyes seeing the beautifully arranged gardens and the well-maintained plants brought by individuals. In order to address the quality of training of allied ophthalmic personnel (AOP), LAICO organised EyeTRAIN which brought together institutions to share best practices and resources for eye care training. The conference mainly targeted ophthalmologists, allied ophthalmic personnel, optometrists, technicians, ophthalmic nursing trainers, hospital managers and other cadres of eye care institutions who are involved in the training AOP staff. Many Aravind centres including Aurolab celebrated Pongal, the harvest festival of Tamil Nadu with great zeal. News about these and many more feature in this issue.
