Sponsors’ Day
Aravind, December 18
Every two years, Aravind Eye Hospitals organise Sponsors’ Day to acknowledge and thank the support of the sponsors – NGOs and individuals – towards the conduct of free screening camps. Aravind Eye Hospitals at Coimbatore and Pondicherry organised Sponsors’ Day on December 18 and events at both the centres received overwhelming response. At Aravind-Chennai had 182 sponsors attending the function and at Aravind-Pondicherry over 380 attended.
Hospital Day Celebrations
Aravind – Tirupati, December 17
S V Aravind Eye Hospital (SVAEH), Tirupati celebrated its fourth annual day. Dr. Sathyanarayana Raju, Director and Treasurer, Bharathiya Vidhya Bhavan was the chief guest. Sri Rajasekhar Reddy, District Co-ordinator; Mr. Satyanarayana, Director – IIT; Shri Siva Kumar Hiremath, Chief, TATA Cancer Hospital; Sri Ranganatham, Chairman, Aravind Society, Tirupati and Thulasiraj Ravilla, Director Operations, Aravind Eye Care System were the guests of honour. Mr. Kesava Kumar, General Manager, SVAEH welcomed the audience. Annual report was presented by the Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Ashok Vardhan. Dr. Sathya T Ravilla gave a brief on Auro sambaralu and presented the shield for the winning team. Awards were presented for best attendance and cleanliness. All the guests motivated the audience through their inspiring talks. Cultural performance by the allied ophthalmic personnel added colour to the event.
Aravind – Salem, November 26
Aravind Eye Hospital, Salem celebrated its 11th annual day. Dr. Anuja, Medical Officer welcomed the gathering. Dr. Manohar Babu, Chief Medical Officer presented the Annual report for the year 2021-2022. Chief guest,Mr. G. Prabhakaran,Vice Chairman, Narasus Sarathy Institute of Technology, Salem, addressed the gathering. Service Awards were distributed to staff for completing 5 and 10 years of service. Mr. Chandran, Camp Sponsor-Salem addressed the gathering with his kind and motivating words. Mr. Sakthivel, Manager, Finance delivered the vote of thanks. Cultural celebrations for the evening started with a dance performance by the allied ophthalmic personnel which was well-appreciated by the audience.
Melodies of Margazhi 2022
Aravind – Chennai, December 17-20
Aravind-Chennai organised a musical recital commemorating the Tamil month of Margazhi, the annual performing arts season in Tamil Nadu. A divine atmosphere was created by the soulful performances of eminent Carnatic musicians and percussionists. The audience was spell bound and was well-receptive to the musical performance.
Building an Inclusive India
Aravind-Madurai, December 2
PATH in association with Aravind Eye Care System organised a panel discussion to commemorate World Disability Day. The event had multidisciplinary team of experts sharing thoughts on how disabilities of various kinds affect individuals and their families; role of society in mainstreaming them and the challenges ahead. Dr. C. Ramasubramanian, Founder, Ahana Hsopital, Madurai; Dr. Rani Chakravarthy, Rakshna Child Care Centre; Dr. Uma Shah, Snkalp Foundation and Dr. B. Sahithya, Aravind-Madurai took part in the panel discussion and shared valuable inputs. Ramesh Duraikannan, Founder – PATH moderated the programme.
Bhoomi Pooja of Aravind-Tanjore
December 14
Aravind plans for its eighth tertiary care centre in Tanjore, also known as the city of temples and architecture. The ground-breaking ceremony for the building was held on December 14.
Surgical Skill Transfer Course
Aravind – Pondicherry, November 27
To refine surgical skills of ophthalmologists, Aravind Eye Hospital, Pondicherry organised a surgical skills transfer course. 3D surgeries were screened to help the participants understand better. Participants wre divided into groups and each group took up a topic to discuss – phacoemulsification, small incision cataract surgery, dacryocystorhinostomy and lid repair, trabeculectomy, pterygium, corneal tear repair. Wet lab practice was also arranged.
