Eye Screening Camp at Madras High Court

Aravind – Chennai, August 11

Aravind Eye Hospital, Chennai conducted an eye camp for the advocates and staff of Madras High Court.  Honorable Chief Justice. Munishwar Nath Bhandari inaugurated the camp in the presence of Mr.Kamalanathan, President – Madras Bar Council Association, Mr.Srinivasan, Secretary – Madras Bar Council Association. A total of 504 people underwent eye screening of which 184 were advocates.

Opening of Alangudi Vision Centre

Aravind – Madurai, August 3

Aravind-Madurai opened its 36th vision centre at Alangudi. This is the 103rd centre of the Aravind Eye Care System and 5th centre under the Seva –Standard Chartered Bank project. The centre was inaugurated by Dr. Madhu Shekhar, Head, Cataract and IOL Services; Dr. Kowsalya, vision centre in-charge, Aravind- Madurai and Dr. Balaji, Medical Consultant, Aravind-Madurai.

Mr. Jesu Udaiyar, Correspondent, J group of colleges;  Mr. Muthuraman, President, Pudukkottai Drug society;  Mr. Syed Ibrahim, Lions President; K.P.K.T.Thangamani,  Union Chairman; Mr.karupiah Middle School Headmaster; Mr. Kumar, Vimal Labs and other prominent people from the community attended the function. The centre examined 106 patients on the inaugural day, of which 48 were advised for cataract surgery. 16 patients were advised to wear eye glasses and 7 patients placed orders for the same.  Eye health workers Mr. Rajapandian, Mr. Nagalingam and Mr. Raman took care of the co-ordination works and publicity arrangements.

Fresher's Day

Aravind – Tirunelveli, July 30

The newly joined post graduate doctors of Aravind-Tirunelveli celebrated freshers day with a variety of programmes. All the new post graduates introduced themselves to the gathering. Dr.R. Ramakrishnan and Dr. R. Meenakshi were the chief guests for the function who gave  an inspiring speech and reiterated doctors’ responsibilities in achieving the mission Aravind.

Accommodation Facility for Camp Patients

Aravind –Salem opened an accommodation facility for its patients brought through free screening camps. Dr. G. Natchiar, Director Emeritus, Aravind Eye Care System inaugurated the facility which can accommodate 300 patients at a time.

Glaucoma Stalwarts Speak

Aravind – Chennai, July 24

The CME hosted by Aravind-Chennai had eminent glaucoma specialists from Chennai like  Dr. L. Vijaya, Sankara Nethralaya; Dr. Murali Ariga, Swami Eye Clinic and Surgicentre; Dr. M.R. Chitra, Regional Institute of Ophthalmology  sharing insights on various topics such as childhood glaucoma, complications of tube surgeries, selective laser trabeculoplasty and Cyclo G6. Aravind’s  glaucoma specialists, Dr. George Varghese Puthuran and Dr. Neethu Mohan also shared inputs on various topics. The CME also had several case discussions from the glaucoma fellows of Aravind and post graduate students from other institutions. Quiz organized by Dr. Neethu Mohan, Dr. Anjana Ramanathan and Dr. Rishika Lakshiminarayana assessed the audience’s knowledge regarding the topics discussed during the CME. Winners were awarded prizes.
