New Facility for Aravind-Dindigul

Aravind’s secondary eye care centre at Dindigul will soon move to new, spacious premises. The building is ready and will be formally inaugurated in July. Boiling the milk ceremony for this new building was held on June 10 in the presence of senior leadership team of Aravind.

D43 Project: Building Non-Communicable Eye Disease Research Capacity in India

Aravind-Madurai, May 25-27

Aravind Eye Care System was awarded with a grant by the US Federal Government to address non-communicable diseases (NCD) across the lifespan, focusing on prevention, early life determinants, risk factors, co-morbid conditions, and control of NCDs. Aravind Eye Hospital will execute this project in collaboration with University of Michigan, USA. The project will provide an interdisciplinary training programme for clinicians:

  • to develop knowledge and skills needed to design and conduct clinical research
  • to introduce them to life course approaches in clinical-epidemiological research
  • to  contribute to preventing and reducing the impact of NCEDs in India for its rapidly aging population

Towards initiating the project activities, a team from University of Michigan – Joshua Robert Ehrlich; David C. Musch and Dr. Nambi Nallasamy visited Aravind and held discussions with the senior members here. Dr. Shyam Vasudevarao and Dr. Anand Vinekar from Narayana Nethralaya Hospital, Bangalore too joined the discussion.

Myopia Awareness Week

Aravind, May 23-28

Aravind centres observed Myopia awareness week with the theme, Make your eyes move. Parents and children actively participated in the various events. Awareness talks on myopia, digital eye strain and importance of outdoor activities for kids were organised. Games and drawing competitions were conducted for the kids and the winners were given attractive prizes.
