Dear Colleagues,
The subspecialty of Ophthalmic Anaesthesia has now come a long way since the days of Retrobulbar anesthesia for cataract surgeries. The ever-increasing role of a well-trained anesthetist cannot be overemphasized in the contemporary world of ophthalmic disease management. From merely monitoring patients under topical anesthesia for systemic complications, the role of anesthetists has now expanded to include pediatric and adult general anesthesia for a host of ocular diseases including surgery for congenital eye diseases and strabismus, ocular malignancies, and orbital diseases amongst others, demanding specific skills.
It is with great pride and pleasure that we invite you to the second annual conference of the Association of Indian Ophthalmic Anaesthetists (AIOA). Such annual deliberations of the AIOA are committed to ensuring that ophthalmologists, anesthetists, and allied paramedical professionals are equipped with and updated on the training and education necessary for the provision of safe and high-quality ophthalmic anesthesia services in the efficient surgical management of eye diseases. It is an appropriate forum for the exchange of ideas and experiences that promotes and encourages scientific endeavors and facilitates the exchange of innovative anesthetic practices. A diverse mix of anesthetists, ophthalmologists, and health care professionals have consented to be part of the invited faculty for the scientific deliberations that include didactics, collaborative interactions, and live demonstrations of ophthalmic anesthetic procedures and techniques.
We eagerly await your active participation in the annual AIOA Conference to be held at the Aravind Eye Hospital, Madurai on September 24th & 25th, 2022.
