Inauguration of Vision Centres

Aravind – Chennai, July 22

As part of Rotary Club’s Orange initiative, Aravind-Chennai inaugurated two more vision centres, in Puzhal and Sholavaram. The centres were inaugurated by Mr. Rtn. J. Sridhar, District Governor, Rotary District 3232; Rtn. Muthupalaniappan, Past District Governor – 3232 and Mr. Srinivasarao, President, Rotary Club Chennai East . Puzhal centre saw 41patients and Sholavaram centre saw 54 patients on the inaugural day. 

Mission Day

Aravind, July 7

Mission Day was observed across the Aravind centres and Aurolab. Special bhajans and talks reminiscing about Dr. V were arranged in all locations. A video tribute to Dr.V was screened. Mr. G. Srinivasan, one of the founding members of Aravind  who passed away recently was also remembered during the meeting.

Inauguration of Cornea Clinic

Aravind-Tirupati, July 21

The new Cornea Clinic at Aravind-Tirupati was inaugurated by Dr. Ashok Vardhan, Chief Medical Officer and Dr. Rajyeshwanth, Medical Officer – Cornea Services.

Hands-on Training for Vision Centre Staff

Aravind– Tirunelveli, July 25

The training was held for the staff of Aravind-Tuticorin, Kovilpatti and 17 Vision centres, as part of SEVA funded Systematic  Paediatric  Eye Care through Sibling Screening Strategies Project.  Dr. A. Fathima, Consultant, Paediatric Ophthalmology Services welcomed the audience. Dr. R. Meenakshi, Chief Medical Officer briefed about the project. Each centre was given the necessary items for training like RAF ruler, prism bar, Pen torch, accommodation target, occluder and accommodation Flipper.

Utilising the Downtime Caused by Lockdown

Aravind-Tirunelveli

COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown restrictions paved the way for low patient footfall in many Aravind centres. To utilise the downtime, Aravind-Tirunelveli organised a variety of programmes, mainly awareness exhibitions. The exhibitions were organised by departments such as Pharmacy, Out-patient services, Instruments Maintenance, Microbiology and Biochemistry labs and were intended to make staff aware of the functions of each department.

Health and Fitness session

Aravind – Tirunelveli, July 28

Many exercises were taught during the session organised for the day scholar MLOPs and admin staff.

Exhibition by First Year AOPs

Aravind-Madurai, July 10-17

A one week exhibition was organised by the first year allied ophthalmic personnel where working models, 3D models, charts and 3D layouts of different departments were kept on display. There was an active participation from all the departments. The exhibition paved an opportunity for the AOPs to develop their communication skills as well as to learn more about the activities of each department.

Aurosambarula

Aravind- Tirupati, June 2021

Aurosambaralu (Sambaralu is a telugu word meaning carnival) is an attempt to have year-round celebrations. Staff members split into four teams- Visvasam, Karunyam, Upakaram and Nambagam – participate in competitions conducted every month.

As part of the Aurosambaralu event, miniature gardens were created by the mid level ophthalmic personnel using waste materials from the lab and operation theatre and old bulbs.
